lecture
Starhawk will speak at Kent State University as part of Women’s History
Month celebrations.
“Women’s Hidden Histories: Goddesses, Witches, Hags and Wild Women”
At the root of Western Culture, at the very beginnings of what we call
“civilization,” lie societies where the sacred was envisioned in female form and women held social power. The suppressed memory of that time lives on in art, in myths and fairy tales: even in contemporary popular culture: witness Avatar! When women begin to reclaim that power, we’re seen as fearful and scary. Yet those images of Goddesses and Witches, hags and harpies can lead us home to our wild, creative, world-changing selves.
Talk followed by spiral dance (weather permitting) and booksigning.
Sponsored by The Women’s Liberation Collective.
Time: 7:30 p.m.
Location: the Kiva at KSU
Cost: KSU students free; non-students $5
