Indigenous Peace Cultures conference
26 Apr 2013
April 26-28
Starhawk will speak and teach at the “Indigenous Peace Cultures” international conference in Turin, Italy. Her keynote:
“Women Take Action: Using the Insights of Feminism to Change the World”
War, global violence, environmental degradation, social injustice… these are hard times for women, children, and all who hold compassionate and caring values. Nurturing and many other qualities and activities associated with women are devalued, while force and violence are held up as models of strength. But women represent a different vision of strength. Women-initiated and women-led actions have a special energy and power. That power comes not from excluding men — we welcome men as participants — but because of the joy and visionary potential that arise when women work together to fiercely defend the values of life. In this talk, Starhawk speaks from her experiences as an organizer with Code Pink: Unreasonable Women for Peace; her work with Jewish and Palestinian women in the West Bank and Gaza; and her many years as a leading innovator in the Goddess revival and eco-feminist movements. How can the insights of feminism help us out of the mess we’re in today?
She will also lead a spiral dance at the end of the evening circle.
Presented by the Laima Association.
